Re: Stretched Badland Aircraft

Allen, I disagree with your conclusion of no need for flaps or the flapperons on the Badlands UL. The Badland is marketed as a STOL UL, so the steep decent is actually a need. A slip into a rough LZ isn't advisable, especially if in a canyon area where winds are typically a little more unpredictable...

Re: Stretched Badland Aircraft

You know that didn't even cross my mind and sounds like a good idea. I would hate to be in a position to go full left or right aileron roll, and to have the plane just keep heading into a wing over stall and spin! :o

Re: Finding Plans

I think you're absolutely correct on the site that has the plans being a pirate site. The legal issues are certainly a possibility. However, I think they would be very minor to nothing at all considering how long the B1-RD hasn't been produced. The trick would be to find out who (if anyone) still ow...

Re: Vortex Generators

Agreed - pretty much nothing but benefits from them. Plus I think you've got the right idea when we discussed painting them. Painting would make them look great, but upkeep and replacement for those that may be damaged - no fun. Keep'em as they came out of the package - smart!

This coming weekend will be a pancake breakfast in Forth Worth. I'll see what I can bring back from there - they have ultralights there!

Re: New/Old timer

As you mention Allen, the folding wings on a Badland can be done by one person. It's not super easy, but that's more about the size of wings and having to walk around a lot to get them folded, but it's more than do-able. Chris mentions this in one of the YouTube video's he's in - that two people can...

Re: New/Old timer

The flight characteristics you mention of the Kolb remind me a lot of my Honda Valkyrie. I had a car tire on the rear. Instead of pushing the handlebars in slightly the opposite direction to go into a turn at speed I actually had to lean into the turn and pull the handlebars into that turn. That big...

Re: New/Old timer

Good to hear he's doing so well, and I know I'm in that line of kit builds somewhere. The good part for me about having to wait is I've paid off everything I had on credit and refuse to use credit anymore. The waiting is giving me the time to build up the airplane fund to hand him. That way he's not...

Re: Back to back builds

I'm not sure which I admire more - the build or the shop it's taking place in! Funny to that Peer and I were just talking about putting on the Oratex as well as I was reading in the build manual about the application and sealing of the ribs. By the way that's a great manual. Detailed really we...

Re: New/Old timer

Hi Allen. One of the things that attracted me to the Badland F series is the enclosed cockpit, similar to your Challenger 2. I love the ultralight field of aircraft and the freedom it provides to pilots. The co-founder of the forum is just about done with his build and he's told me a number of times...

Badland103Forum - Introduction

How did this forum server come about? Well, about a year ago a certain individual in Dallas (me – one of the Badland103Forum Admins) decided that I wanted to fly again. Looking into the costs, it was obvious that the costs had skyrocketed since my flight training back in 1999. Instead of going PPL o...
