Re: 4 Stroke engine woes

Thanks for the stories Bill and Chris!

Since my 460 is one of the first and gone through by Chris I am still confident in it, although never flying beyond a field, beach, or dirt road I can reach. ;)

Re: 4-stroke engine options?

Sounds good. What climb rates are you getting? Climb and Cruise RPM? I've got a Briggs Vanguard 38 (627cc) v-twin on the test stand now and it's doing well. At 75 lbs I'm getting 38HP at 5500 using a test club. This engine definitely needs to find a plane, but my eventual Badland will almost certai...

Re: 4-stroke engine options?

Thanks Tom for posting. I'm really liking that engine, but of course you're already flying with it Have you run into any issues or surprises with it? Todd So far the only problem has been the bracket that holds the exhaust pipe on the right side. I am on the third iteration of it but this seems to ...

Re: 4-stroke engine options?

Numbers! Redline is 5600. Climb at 54/5500 and 50mph Cruise about 55 at 4500 to 5000 (I am just starting and haven’t had a lot of flight time in calm air.) Climb rate seems to be at least 500 fpm, I have some GPS data I need to analyze to get an accurate number. The propeller is E-Props three blade ...

Re: 4-stroke engine options?

I have the ThumpAir 460 flying in my F1.
You can see a couple videos at my YouTube playlist that is in my signature below. I’ll try to add some more I know I have.
So far I like it, it’s very torque-y and I get off the ground really quick.

Re: Badland F1 Parachute Ordered

Have you had any feedback on the difference between the soft or hard case? I also wonder if the FAA would consider the added forward weight you mentioned to deal with CG shift as part of the weight allowance of the chute? I mean you're adding the weight for safety because of the chute, right? The s...

Re: Badland F1 Parachute Ordered

I am looking forward to more info on the chute as well as how you mount it. I am considering one as well, but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around where the mounting straps would need to go (connecting the chute to the fuselage). I have a drawing Chris had done for a BRS system. The harn...

Badland F1 Parachute Ordered

I just ordered a Comelli CHA 375 parachute in a can system yesterday and will be mounting it above and to the right of the fuel tank. I will probably have to make a cutout in the overhead window but that shouldn't be a problem. The biggest issue is CG. The system weighs 20 lbs but puts me right aft ...

Re: Bonanza to Badland

Hi all! New to ultralights but have been flying since 1956 when grandpa bundled mom and 6 week old me into his C-170. I bought Chris Deuel’s Badland F1 he had on display at Airventure 2023, picked it up in November and drove it to its new home at WVI Watsonville, CA. Got a PPL in 1977, flew Cheroke...

Welcome to the group, Fly44d! Watsonville...is that up north or Monterey? And which Badland is it you picked up? Is that the grey, red and black one, or a different one? (I don't recall what he had at Airventure.) Looking forward to stories of your adventures with it! Can you tell us your impressio...
