Re: Pieces and Parts
Todd, as I recall the issue with the flaperon droop tip was two-fold. It was heavier than we had hoped it would be, and we struggled to find a secure way to mount. We will need to revisit at some point and see what we can come up with. I do still like the "modular wingtip" idea. We just n...

Re: Pieces and Parts
Do you have an updated ETA on your Titanium F5? No date set yet, and Chris mentioned the timeline for the F5 is different because of the different material used. Besides, getting the kit over the last six months would have been difficult with the move from Dallas to Florida. The good is the closing...

Wow! Very Impressive work! Please keep us in the loop if you come up with any other weight saving innovations! Yes indeed. That's pretty much the plan. Design, test, break, re-design until it's right and then offer it to Badland pilots on request and covering material cost. I'm not looking to make ...

Re: Ultralight Flight Training - READ ME FIRST
I learned a lot when I trained with CFI Wolf Emonds last year in OR. However it is a tough trip from NY to OR for continual training. A quick trip to MI every once in a while is a bit more manageable. Have a club like MULA, as you mentioned, is more ideal. I wish that there was more that I could do...

You may get a warning about this site but it looks legit. US distributor Blackhawk Paramotors https://www.helvenco.com/aero1000.htm BitDefender certainly doesn't like that link, but I found plenty of others just searching for the Aero 1000. None of the links I found gave a weight though. Looks like...

Re: Pieces and Parts
This is all very intriguing Todd. When I was doing flight training in OR last year, one of the pilots there was doing a lot of 3D printing for custom parts/accessories for his plane. This type of technology is way outside of my wheelhouse, so I defer to the "experts". I'd love to see what...

Re: 4-stroke engine options?
It certainly would be a challenge. No doubt about that. As for the FAA, there is the other side of the story. I don't believe the FAA has the desire to even look at the weight of the chute in the calculations. Instead they would go with the full allowance. They like simple, simple is easy. Plus ther...

I worked with the guys at Smart Carb for several weeks trying this, that and the other thing and I can't say enough about their customer service. They really went the extra mile. I have the ThumpAir 460 flying in my F1. You can see a couple videos at my YouTube playlist that is in my signature below. I’ll try to add some more I know I have. It's been suggested that a water cooled option will be more likely to keep up with cooling, but I don't really see suitable water cooled 4-stroke small enough for part 103. I would love to have a 4 stroke water cooled, but you're absolutely right. I don't see it happening because of weight limitati...

Hmm. All things considered, the Aixro isn't THAT crazy priced. Todd, how much is the Hirth twin you were originally looking at? I like the Thump-Air both for power and for the sound. Re: 4-stroke engine options?
So far, the only 4 stroke I see that's been able to beat down the weight issue of a 4 stroke is the ThumpAir. Other's have brought down weight, but only a little. Scott has done a great job with the ThumpAir. I would love to have a rotary, but as Peer mentions, the price is crazy and so is the TBO, ...

That's what I noticed as well. Picked up the tail quick. Now, using Jim Pfarr's Belite technique may get the plane off the ground even faster. Jim goes no flaps until just below rotation speed, then jacks in the flaps which pops the plane into the air, drops the flaps partly and fly's away. https://...

I don't think you'd have any trouble with syncing the carbs. There's only one control on the carb that would need adjustment (as best I can tell), and that's to make sure both throttle cables pull the same. As long as you did the same turns on the only fuel mixture adjustment, then they should be th...
