If you know of an event please feel free to post it here. The Announcements area is for active events. Send a message or email to the admins to get your even posted there. Past events are listed in Topics and may have videos, pictures, and comments associated with them so we keep them around for those that weren't able to attend the event.

This forum also includes a topic directory for FB groups and other forums that have been kind enough to help support our efforts so we point back to them in mutual support of ultralight flight.

Pieces and Parts

Post by Badland-F5 Pilot »

With the advances in technology used to create and build parts, your forum co-founders are heading into design and possible sale of specialized parts for Badland aircraft. We are looking at what we can design and build to enhance most aspects of UL flight. We are just starting out on the project, so we are spinning ideas of what to start with first. Some things on the table are wing fences, in flight adjustable trim tabs, winglets, tilted instrument mounts, custom instrument plaques and labels, and more. Many of these items will be created with carbon fiber material for strength and visual appeal. As mentioned, we're just getting started so it'll take some time to design, fabricate, ruthlessly test, and finally offer to UL pilots. Unfortunately we still have day jobs that we have to attend to. Note that we are focusing on Badland aircraft to start, but many items will fit or be adaptable to other UL aircraft.

More too come on this adventure!

Not sure if it exists now or not, but how about a canvas aft baggage/storage container. Not too big or someone might throw in more than what's reasonable. Maybe with a zipper top. A nice place to throw some 2-stroke oil, some tie-down ropes, and anything else that might be needed on a cross country outing.

Not a bad idea at all. Give me some dimensions of what you think would be about the right size and any other ideas on the design you might have. Peer and I have also discussed a lock on storage bin that will go under the pilot outside of the plane. This location would almost eliminate any change in CG. The only concern of course would be to ensure not going over the maximum gross for flight. We imagined the storage bin to be large enough for a compact sleeping bag, light weight tent, a single burner camp stove (you know the propane or butain type), some food, and a few other items needed for overnight stays in the wilderness. What do you think?
