F3 Speed (RTF) w/doors!
Greetings Badland Aircraft Enthusiasts!
I apologize for the delay in posting these images since the Virtual Fly-in on June 25th. I had just returned from a 2 week aviation journey the evening of June 24th, which culminated with spending a couple of days in Truman, MN! I was able to spend some time with Chris at his shop, and get a little flying in, before loading up my F3 Speed (with some upgrades) RTF, in a Budget Rental Truck and drive East for 2 days. It has been a very hectic 10 days since my return home, hence the delay.
I have posted similar images on the UL 103, the Taildragger Pilots United, and my personal Facebook pages and have been inundated with personal messages requesting more information on this amazing aircraft! I have also made a post on the Badland/Ultracub/Procub Aircraft Oweners and Pilots FB pages which is currently pending Approval.
As I have mentioned in each of my FB posts...and for those who are on the fence, or indecisive about investing in a Badland Aircraft; after physically looking at, and sitting in, a dozen other Part 103 UL (some pretty shably assembled), I am very impressed with the quality and attention to detail that Chris has put into the design and manufacturing of these amazing aircraft. I know that many of those details have been discussed in other threads on this forum.
I believe that I stated during the Virtual Fly-in that "the Badland Aircraft is not an ultralight trying to be an airplane, it is an airplane that happens to meet the Part 103 criteria".
As you can tell, I am excited to be a Badland Aircraft owner. I will be moving "Thor" to the airport hangar next week.
I will keep you posted on my future Badland Aircraft adventures.
~Barry

Re: F3 Speed (RTF) w/doors!
Hey Barry, thank you for posting especially with all the pictures. This is by far the best looking Badland I've seen Chris produce so far. The color scheme is outstanding and the pictures show the attention to detail of the plane. I envy you having such a great looking, not failing to mention I'm sure great flying airplane. Between Lance's deep red and gold Badland and yours, they represent what this forum's motto is: Grow The Sport. I look forward to the day where I will join you, and other Badland owners in flying the best built UL aircraft ever made.
Thanks again,
Todd

Thanks Todd! I think that Chris was initially a little apprehensive with my choice of an Orange engine cowling, the round Badland Aircraft logo rear of the cowling, nor the doors! LOL! But I have always been drawn to the old war planes and the artwork that was on them, hence the BA logo...plus I thought that it would give a little promotion to Badland Aircraft while flying it... or just while sitting at the airports!Badland-F5 Pilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:26 pm Hey Barry, thank you for posting especially with all the pictures. I have to admit that I don't care for the bump cowl, but in this case it's absolutely spot on, especially with that bright orange. That was an excellent color to have it painted. I'm just not a fan of the bump cowl itself. I would rather have something like the Carbon Cub has.Badland-F5 Pilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:26 pm Thanks Todd! The problem is the Cub has a rounded fuselage. Going from a square of the Badland to a more rounded look isn't going to be easy. Along with that because there is no reduction unit needed on the Cub, the taper from the cockpit to the prop is much smoother. I'm still looking for a way to make this happen on my Badland, but it's going to take a little thinking. Possibly a prop extension to push the prop further away from the reduction unit. The boxer style of the Hirth F23 I think would be ideal; where using the bump cowl I think I'd have to cut some holes on each side for the cylinders.
I also see that E#
I'm going to be very pleased once I reach that point and will have E011BC on the tail of my Badland.
Todd
Good color scheme
Looks really good.
My plan is for half naked (white powder coat frame) Sky Blue and Fokker Red Oratex. I'm now thinking of doing the whole bubble cowl in the red with black " bumps".
I spoke with Chris last night ( mostly chasing my 303 no spark problem ... looks to be a bad CDI) when he said that Oratex may not be able to deliver Fokker Red 600 material until MUCH later in the year. He's getting ready for Oshkosh and will try to snag enough of the Red (probably 6000) for my wings need.

Barry, that is one beautiful plane. I am guessing it flies as good as it looks?
I absolutely love the color scheme, as well as the logo near the cowl.
Kurt, it sounds like you are a step closer to getting that engine fired. Bummer about the delay on the Fokker red 600. Is the weight difference between the 600 and the 6000 not going to impact you too badly?

Hey Todd,
The Carbon Cub does have a sweet looking cowl...as you mentioned it is going to take some work to make that transition on the Badland. I'm wondering how it would look transitioning from the boxy airframe. You should do a mock-up!
Do you know where you are in the queue for your F5? I know that when I was at Chris's shop, he had several frames already welded, and a bunch of freshly CNC cut tubing that he was preparing for kits.
I look forward to seeing what weight you plane comes in at!

Kurt,
That would look awesome! I look forward to seeing the end result. I hope that you can get the CDI issue resolved and are able to get the red Oratex soon.

I like the red/black color scheme. Those two always look good together and I think even more so on the bump cowl. Bummer on the CDI and delay on the Oratex. It's always something getting in the way.ksatter26 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 8:58 am Looks really good.

A little "dressing up" inside! Kind of like inside of the Aeroprakt that I flew a few weeks ago.

I used that very carpet on a pop-up camper trailer I had some years back. Very light weight and cuts down on some noise. That's another part of the build I'm looking forward to; dressing up the cockpit with as little weight gain as possible

That is a cozy looking cockpit. I may have to follow suit with the carpet. Mine is very industrial looking at the moment.
