PDQ Vistual Airport Guide

Post by Badland-F5 Pilot »

I have a tool that was included in some flight equipment I ordered as a free addition. I've not tried to use it until the other day when I was flying my simulator. I apparently can't figure out the instructions, so hoping someone can help me and point me to what I'm doing wrong, or if I'm just imagining something is wrong.

The wheel is supposed to give quick answers to left or right entry into the flight pattern, downwind, base, and final. I'm doing something wrong and can't figure out what it is. The following shows the right down wind for a runway and the directions on how to use the wheel. The image is high resolution, so zooming in on the instructions shouldn't be an issue.

I'm trying to use the wheel for Keystone Heights Muni in Keystone Heights, Florida (42J).

So, I want to fly into the pattern, for making left down wind for runway 23. According to the instructions, I'm to set the white outer wheel to my heading to the airfield. I'm trying to make this simple by being directly East of the airfield. My heading then to the airport should be 270, correct? The entry shows 185 degrees. That would be south, shouldn't I be turning right to 50 degrees (180 from 230?). Then turn left 90 degrees for down wind, and final left 90 degrees for 23. I'm confused.

Suggestions? Confirmation? Am I doing this right?

Thanks,
Todd
